LTE (Long Term Evolution) is a standard for Wi-Fi networks and evolving standards GSM / UMTS marked as 4G (the 4th generation).

 

The goal of LTE is to increase the capacity and speed of Wi-Fi networks using new technologies DSP (digital signal processing). The primary objective was redesigning and simplifying the network architecture to an IP-based system, with significantly reduced latency transfer compared to 3G architecture.

LTE wi-fi interface is incompatible with 2G and 3G networks so it must operate on a separate Wi-Fi spectrum.
